A blow to Kahlon: Tzega Malko diqualified for upcoming election

Moshe Kahlon’s Kulanu party suffered a setback today when Tzega Malko, number 3 on Kulanu’s Knesset list was disqualified from running in the upcoming election. Malko was the head of the Israel Broadcast Authority and was thus prevented from running under the claim that she was a senior government employee.

Some senior employees of the state including generals and other government bodies are required to wait three years between the last day of their government job and their first day as a member of Knesset. The idea behind the law is to prevent a conflict of interest between a person’s government work which is supposed to be apolitical and their Knesset career which is political in nature.
